Our Top Four Poetry Books!

Our Top Four Poetry Books!

 |  Features

In these modern times, many of us struggle to find time to sit down and read a good book. Poetry however is a forgotten art form in many ways. Dating back millenniums, poetry can be traced to Homeric times, with his epics the Iliad and the Odyssey. Yet the thing about poetry is short verses can take you on intense journeys and the prose is often the most beautiful. Well, here are some of our fabulous poetry books that you should read at least once.

Plum, by Hollie McNish

Winner of the Ted Hughes Award for Poetry, Holly McNish had been thrilling UK audiences for a few years now with her spoken word poetry. Plum recounts candid memories from her childhood and attempted adulthood in a sometime rude but always entertaining way.

The Rhythm of Rhyme, by Steve Almy

TRAVEL THROUGH LAND, SEA, SPACE AND TIME. WITH THIS COLLECTION OF RHYMES.
BE A CAPTAIN OF A TALLSHIP OR A SPACESHIP FOR A DAY
AND MEET SOME GREAT PEOPLE ALONG THE WAY.

The Sun and Her Flowers, by Rupi Kaur

The follow on from Kaur’s bestselling Milk and Honey, The Sun and Her Flowers follows a similar line of growth and healing from pain. Divided into five chapters and illustrated by Kaur, the proms tell a story of wilting, falling, rooting, rising and blooming.

Through the Leaves of My Tree, by Liz Gillespie

Poetry is a unique craft of words driven by the inner thoughts of the poet's personal experiences.
In this collection by Liz Gillespie most of the material is gleaned from her personal life and family.
The enjoyment of poetry is not only to absorb the subject but to read it... unfettered with grammar and punctuation conventions. If you have a musical aptitude, you will automatically create your very own song with the natural cadence of the verses. A well-written and thought provoking list of stanzas.
