Name: Flora Brown

Age: 43

Physical Description: My friends say I am petite. A lovely word which I think does not quite fit me. I am five foot four and slight. My hair was an ordinary brown and cut short, but I now have highlights in it which I think has made my face look a little rosier. I am quite short sighted and at the moment wear large oval tortoise shell specs. I suppose one would say that my clothing is ’arty’. A lot of dark loose, dresses, big linen shirts and trousers and chunky jewellery. I also adore clogs.

Short Bio: A happy childhood, but things turned bad when my father left. I was forced into homelessness. Shortly after, a boy I loved died, and I then made a disastrous marriage. I left that, taking my daughter. With help and hard work, I now stand proudly on my own two feet.

Top Interests: I never had much time for interests when my daughter was young. I spent most of my time caring for her and avoiding upsetting my husband. I did read a little though. Nothing important, just little romances that took me to a happier world. Now I read anything I can get my hands on. A quiet moment with a good book…a true joy. My job, at a gallery and also teaching art history to sixth formers. also gives me enormous pleasure. The students are like super sponges…always interesting and interested. Now that I live on my own; my daughter having married, I have taken up collage and embroidery. A bit sedate, one might think, but engrossing.

Green Flags: I am proud of myself for having the courage to leave my marriage and for making a loving, safe, secure home for myself and my daughter. I did not kiss any frogs along the way, or indeed, any princes, but I slayed a lot of dragons.

As my daughter is happily married now, I feel the time is right to look for my own prince. I want someone to love and cherish, and someone who will cherish me.

It will be a difficult step for me… No! less a step, more a bungee jump.

Red Flags: There I go again…what if the rope breaks. Will I never, ever, lose this sense of fear? With the right person …Yes.

Whoever he is, wherever he is, or whatever he is, and whatever dragons he might have faced, if he is the right man, he can expect love and honesty from me. But I would expect that if I were ever faced with another dragon, he will be unhesitatingly by my side, cheering me on as I slay it, all the while holding firmly to my hand… Is there such a man? I very much hope so.

Physical Description: My friends would describe me as tall; a tad over six foot, with thick, dark hair, slightly too long and which they always say is in need of a good cut. Not handsome but rather striking. Bold nose, deep blue eyes and wide expressive mouth, that doesn’t smile a lot. I am usual very clean and smell nice, though my hands are often paint stained. I usually dressed casually. Cords, blue shirts and a favourite Navy Reefer jacket, bought from an Army surplus store… and a wrist watch of no particular value, that my Curtis grandfather left to me.

Short Bio: I have painted all my life. Throughout my childhood, in the war years, at art school, and my National Service: a few months in Germany and then the remainder on Cyprus… I then went to the Royal College of Art and am now a part time tutor at a local art school.

Top Interests: I nearly always have music on when I am painting. Constantly therefore, my friends might say. I am quite eclectic in my tastes, as I love the English composers, Elgar and Ralph Vaughan Williams, but also Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov. Jazz too…Brubeck, Miles Davis. and Coltrane. Folks’ songs, Woodie Guthrie being a favourite, but also Adam Faith, The Hollies and the Beatles.

Green Flags: I have asked a close friend about this, as it’s rather difficult to advertise one’s self.  He says, I am loyal, generous and kind. Good with money and not averse to trying anything new. I make a knock-out lasagne and enjoy the wines of the world, particularly French.

Red Flags: I am quite self-aware and realise I often become over focused, especially with my painting. Sometimes days go past when I do nothing else. I tend also to be rather serious about it. I am quite openminded about all of this; though ideally, I think I would prefer someone who shares some of my interests. Perhaps someone with an interest in the history and the practise of art. If that is not too big an ask…And my  dear friend Richard, who has known me since art school says to add…someone who will make me laugh. Everyone says I need a bit more joy in my life.
