A Global Refrain- World Poetry Day 2023

A Global Refrain- World Poetry Day 2023

 |  Features

Poetry has long been integral to the world of literature, having been used to express love, devotion, pain, immeasurable sorrow and boundless joy over the centuries, in far fewer words than a piece of prose or a full-length novel.

There is something undeniably powerful about a piece of writing that can communicate grand, complex feelings or tell a gripping story in a way that is succinct and to-the-point, whilst maintaining the same emotional impact as something much longer and more detailed.

March 21st marks the annual World Poetry Day, an occasion declared in 1999 by UNESCO with the intent of supporting “linguistic diversity through poetic expression and increasing the opportunity for endangered voices to be heard”.

Here at Pegasus, we’re proud to say we have a plethora of stunning poets on our roster, and we hope you’ll join us today as we celebrate them!

Liz Gillespie

Scottish wordsmith Liz Gillespie joined our roster in 2019, and recently published her anthology “My Inner Voice”, having published with us in January of this year. Liz says that she only started writing poetry in recent years as a way to relax and document some of her life experiences to pass down onto her children.

In her own words, “poems are just stories written in a rhythmic way”, and through her poetry, Liz illustrates beautiful tales of her family life, as well as musings and observations of the world that surrounds us.

You can find Liz Gillespie’s “My Inner Voice” on our website, as well as through retailers such as Amazon and Waterstones.

Cath Morris

Cath Morris published her poetry collection “The Looming” with us in 2022, a collection of poetry that spans several decades, with some works dating back to the early 1990s.

Cath’s work has drawn warm praise from other poets, with famed Canadian poet Jamie Reid saying: “An engaging intelligence is at work in these poems, along with flashes of a kind of passion rarely seen these days.”

The themes of Cath’s work vary greatly, with musings on nature and the passage of time to scathing critiques of capitalism and colonialism.

Cath was born in Ottawa, and currently resides in Vancouver where she has worked as a journalist, a university writing tutor, and a writer and researcher for television.

You can find Cath Morris’ “The Looming” on our website.

Lucille Morgan

London-based Lucille Morgan is a multifaceted writer, having written poetry, fiction and general interest articles. “Stars & Scars”, published with us in January 2022, is a poetry anthology that focuses on the themes of imperfections and what it means to be human, writing of lost youth, growing pains, long distance love and trying to fix broken people.

Lucille’s poetry is terse in style, often using short sentences to great effect in order to convey the messages and themes presented in her work.

You can find Lucille Morgan’s “Stars & Scars” on our website.
