T.G.W Becker Author Interview
T.G.W. Becker's debut novel, Ecliptica, is due to be released in just a few days time: 23rd June to be exact! Ecliptica is an epic fantasy story of elves, dragons, thieves and prophecies. The author has answered a few questions with us.
1. How would you describe Ecliptica and who would you say it is aimed at?
Ecliptica is aimed at anyone who enjoys an adventure, magic and a good dose of humour thrown in. I’d like to think that it’s not too tricky of a world to get to grips with and for the reader to start building up the imagery as they go. I’ve always felt a good book is one which paints the picture in your mind as you read.
Ecliptica is a story about finding your potential and taking a chance on a life you could have. If I had to sum it up though, I would say it’s about good versus evil, magic, dragons and prophecy.
2. What gave you the inspiration for Ecliptica?
I’ve always had a fascination with dragons and magic. I grew up reading the Hobbit and loved the great adventure of it. I also watched an old VHS of the adaptation of ‘Flight of Dragons’, which had been out for a good few years before I was even born; yet the idea of dragons , their intelligence and wit stuck with me.
3. Ecliptica is the first book in a series. Can you give us an idea of what might be coming in the second book in the series?
Book two is going to continue the adventure of Drake, Zeek, Rossa and Nethalie. I won’t give too much to away in case you’ve not read it yet, but book two will expand on the world and tell the reader what happens when all the Ecliptica pieces are reunited!
4. This is your first novel to be published with us. What have you written in the past?
This is my first full published novel, before Ecliptica I’ve written a good handful of short stories and one or two pieces of fan fiction. I’ve also written outlines for a few other stories on worlds I’d like to explore and share in the future.
5. If Ecliptica was to be made into a movie, who would be your dream cast for the main characters?
Zeek I could see being voiced by Tom Hiddleston. I think he has the ability to deliver serious tones in a humours way. Drake played by Liam Hemsworth, Nethalie played by Sophie Turner and Rossa by Elizabeth Olsen.
6. Other than the rest of the Ecliptica series, do you have any other plans for future writing?
I am currently writing a new novel set in a dystopian future where society is fractured into four castes and genetic mutations have granted some people with the gift of foresight. It explores what happens when society can take action against its people before they even know what it is they have done. Of course, it centres around one character and her life. I don’t want to give too much away just yet as the book is still in its early stages.
7. Who are some of your favourite fantasy authors?
At the moment, I’m really enjoying Victoria Aveyard’s Glass Sword, a great book and keeps you up late reading to find out what happens next. I’m also a long time fan of Trudi Canavan, John Christopher, Paul Hoffman and Christopher Paolini.
8. If you could pick one fantasy world to live in, which would it be and why?
That’s a tough one. I think if I had to pick one it would be in Trudi Canavan’s Kyralia and the city of Imardin. I’d love to be an apprentice magician, honing my skills in the Magicians Guild. I think the idea of being able to cast great feats of magic is something that most fantasy readers at some point wish they could do. Trudi Canavan and the Magicians’ Guild was a world that I felt drawn in to when I came across her books in 2004.
