Mike Beaufort

Mike Beaufort recently retired from a lifetime in medicine, from junior doctor in the NHS to senior GP in the Army Medical Services. During his career he was honoured to receive a number of awards for his clinical care of patients and as his work as a medical educationalist. Dedicated to achieving the best possible care for his patients, he turned down senior management positions to continue as a clinician. He served as a front-line doctor providing advanced life support to wounded and injured servicepersons in various conflicts across the globe over many years. As his career progressed, he acquired a long list of patient stories that continue to live with him. He also experienced the highs and lows of military service, including some eccentric and hilarious events. Mike has settled abroad with his wife, Phoebe, enjoying long dog walks, grandchildren and maintaining his sense of humour.

After a computer error identified his so-called ‘drink problem' and he ends up in hospital suffering from concussion (two totally unconnected incidents!), Mike's journey is tempered with a hefty dose of self-deprecating wit mixed with a genuine and touching commitment to the welfare of his patients.
