Utopia

Simon Burleigh

The book is based on a fictional utopian town, Billstone, where there is superb air quality, good ‎transport facilities, fast internet connectivity, entertainment and other criteria required for a good ‎standard of living. This story is loosely based on the life of a couple, Christian and Jane Malford, ‎who own a farm and supply farm produce to other establishments in the town. This couple is ‎hardworking, law abiding, loves the town and will do anything to help in maintaining the city's ‎quality for good living. At any given opportunity, they also record their works for their own ‎personal online channel.‎
After the election of the country's prime minister, the spotlight is shifted to the election of a ‎mayor for this town. The council is responsible for holding a free and fair election. One of the ‎four candidates contesting the election is Jane Malford as an independent candidate. The other ‎three are from the Conservative Party, the Labour Party and the ruling EMG Party. With the ‎loving and solid support from her husband, Jane started her campaign and everyone seems to ‎agree on her agenda of having more facilities for the people and invigorating the already ‎deteriorating conditions of the town's lake, the children's playground and reopening ‎entertainment facilities such as running track, squash court and pool and creating additional jobs ‎in the process. The other three candidates have also their own initiatives for the city.‎
Who won the election and became the new mayor of the town? Do the majority people of the ‎town agree with the developmental works taken up by the new mayor? Does the much hyped ‎free and fair election always find the person who truly represents and understands the people's ‎wishes and aspirations? ‎
This is the first book in a trilogy that follows the life of Christian and Jane Malford as they ‎experience the changing world around them.‎
