Faranah Cowboy

Phil Avery

Phil Avery, as a young engineer at the age of twenty-three, finds ‎himself accepting a role as a site engineer in Faranah, Guinea. ‎This would catapult him from his safe environment in ‎Nottinghamshire, into a completely alien world. It will certainly ‎challenge him. Leaving his family, girlfriend, and colleagues for ‎six months, Phil was apprehensive of his move to the remote ‎lands of Faranah. With broken French, no knowledge of the ‎tribal language, intense heat, demands of the role, and the ‎sudden lifestyle change, he wondered if the decision was worth ‎it. However, he soon became a well-respected 'cowboy' to the ‎local workforce. Whilst there, he reflected on his relationships ‎and realised the meaning of true love. ‎
