A Breed Apart

Neil Robin

This book is based on events in the life of the author's grandfather, Ted Robin, from just before the start of WW1 until just after the end of WW2.
While based on experiences of its main character, it is not intended to be an accurate historical record - but rather a story of joy and despair on both sides of the Atlantic during this significant period in history.
It follows Ted's early years living in Guernsey, his experiences living in Pennsylvania and his return to his native isle - taking in various happy and tragic events along the way.
Forbidden love, family fall-outs and devoted friendships all feature as this humble man strives to lead a good and honest life in the face of frequent adversity.
Note: 10% of the author's royalties from the sale of this book will be donated to the Guernsey Society for Cancer Relief.

ABOUT NEIL ROBIN

After an inauspicious five years at the Guernsey Grammar School for Boys, when greater effort was paid to larking about than to academic study, I somehow attained four O-levels, including English Language and English Literature. I had hoped to stay on for A-level English, but the headmaster informed my parents that to do so would be a complete waste of everybody's time!
Hence, a thirty-year career with the Guernsey Civil Service and then, once my children had left school and the mortgage cleared, a decision to revisit my affection for English with three years as a reporter with the Guernsey Press and nine years in public relations.
All of this has led to the blissful state that is retirement, affording me the time and de-cluttering of mind to write this book. I hope it provides some enjoyment for a few people as we make our way through these modern times.
