ABOUT LYNDALL JOHNSON

Ann started her career as a porcelain painter and teacher in 1980. Finding that she preferred working from life, she joined a Botanical Master class given by Jenny Phillips in 1999, which launched her into watercolours.

Ann was so thoroughly satisfied with the medium and subject that she decided to indulge in dedicating the rest of her life to recording the splendors of nature and to bring them to the notice of others.

Her subjects range from plants, pollinators, insects, birds to small mammals. She is intrigued by detail and finds that this is a subject that cannot be painted without acknowledging a higher order. Nature is so extraordinarily complex, intricate and self-sufficient that her path of discovery is pure pleasure.

Ann has participated in many group exhibitions including Kirstenbosch since its inauguration where she is a multi-medal winner. Her work was selected for publication in the Highgrove Florilegium 2009 and The Grootbos Florilegium 2022 and still teaches Botanical Watercolours at her studio in Illovo, Johannesburg, South Africa.
