Brought together by a mystery that the imperial Albadine people call the Forbidden, the characters of Dawning Wonder are searchers and questioners: Niels and Aurora, young balloonists planning to fly over the enigmatic Forbidden, a forest from which no tempted human has returned; Leina and Kyra, one born into wealth, the other into debt, both needing answers from a mythological being; Kruso and Edeline, heartbroken soldiers sent to hunt down a trespassing creature; and Torest, a creature on the run, hearing the call of home.
