Shattered Shield

Joanna Pettersson

Middle Ages in Europe are a time of faith and fear, where a whisper of heresy can condemn a man, and power is bought with blood.
Brother Edgar, a lame Augustinian monk with a healer's touch and a restless mind, has always believed his fate lies in books and prayer. But his world changes when he befriends two young knights: Ian, dutiful and high-born, and Richard, charming but penniless. Together, they share songs, dreams, and laughter beneath the glow of stained glass - until a royal murder tears everything apart.
The poison used is one only Edgar could have made, and suddenly his friends stand accused of crimes punishable by fire. To save them, Edgar must step into a dangerous game of lies and betrayals, where the Church and the Crown both harbour secrets worth killing for. What he uncovers will test loyalty, friendship, and the fragile hope of peace in a world ready to burn.
