Lockdown at Woodside

Allan Coleby

Allan Coleby has beautifully and simply narrated a moving story about how societies throughout ‎the world crumbled as a microscopic particle of life, "Coronavirus-19", swept through every ‎nation, cutting down vast swathes of humanity as it went. The fight against it was led by doctors in ‎hospitals and scientists who toiled in bio-chemical research laboratories.‎
Care homes for the elderly distilled the essence of this drama within themselves. In Woodside ‎Lodge we see the battle for survival through the eyes of a young recruit carer, Nicky Croft, as she ‎works with the experienced nurses, the hard-working carers, the chef and the laundry worker, ‎assisted by a local GP and the local hospital. We see how the youngsters, Nicky and Sam, show ‎heroic courage and vision as the narrative tracks the struggles and aspirations of the residents ‎and workers right down to the tragically poignant climax.‎
This is a definitive account of the spring of 2020, which exhibited the most significant medical ‎and socio-economic events since the Second World War.‎
