My African Daughter with a British Passport

Zandile Nyamande

From the rich, dusty soils of Zimbabwe to the maritime climates of England, My African Daughter with a British Passport is a deeply personal journey of loss, resilience, and rediscovery. After losing her mother at a young age, the author clung to the love of her grandmother and others placed in her path. At just ten years old, she was uprooted and sent to begin a new life in England. Suddenly caught between two worlds, she struggled to balance the discipline of her Zimbabwean upbringing with the lenient approach of British culture, leading her to hide her pain and mould herself to fit in. Behind the smiles were scars from abandonment, abuse and the silent battles with mental health that so many in diaspora families face. But this memoir is not only about survival but, also, it's about learning to unearth buried wounds, reclaim identity, and finally choose yourself. Honest, raw, and hopeful, it offers both a powerful story and gentle tools for anyone searching for healing.
