Daughter of a Lioness

Kimberly Hampton Nilsson

When Kimberly Hampton Nilsson receives word that her mother has chosen to end her life through legally assisted dying, she is forced to confront the question most of us spend a lifetime avoiding: how do we live when we are no longer afraid of death?

Daughter of a Lioness is a memoir shaped by love. Raised in unconventional places and guided by a mother who met life - and its ending - with remarkable courage, Kimberly traces a life lived in motion, across continents and inner landscapes alike.

In the days following her mother's death, she is alone on a guided safari walk in the Serengeti, carrying grief, gratitude, and a newly awakened resolve to live fully. This is a story about choosing bravery over comfort, presence over fear, and life - in all its uncertainty - over hesitation.
