The main character of the story is a rugby ball called Ricky. He lives in the sports cupboard of Queensbury High School and every Wednesday afternoon he gets to go out to play when the boys are having their games lesson.
Ricky befriends a young boy called Tom and sets out to help him in the games lesson. Along the way Ricky gets to meet different characters who help him improve Tom's rugby skills.
The story is educational with morals and life skills throughout, such as helping people, encouragement and not giving up.
