Stan Silver

Before retirement, Stan Silver taught literature to adult students for many years. His interest in the enigmatic passage that is the subject of this book began when he taught the Merchant's Tale for the first time. He shared both his initial bewilderment and then his growing insight as to its meaning with his students, whose contribution to the final theory that emerged was by no means negligible.

He enjoys listening to Jazz and follows the fortunes of Charlton Athletic F.C., mostly with a good deal less enjoyment.

Stan was born in 1941. He lives with his wife Janet at their home in Essex.
