Monica Vriens

Monica Vriens (1952) is a painter and writer of children's books living in Groningen, The Netherlands. She likes to write vivid stories evoking visual imagination. This book is inspired by her fondness with Scandinavia and its rocky south-west shores. Her first book, Raccy and the Mirror (2001), also in the style of a fairy tale, describes the adventures of a young, insecure raccoon and his friends. With her paintings - which are not present in this book - the author won two prizes, Club Vincent, Assen (1st prize, 2006) and 2nd prize (2007).
