Margaret McLaren was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she grew up with her parents until the age of nine, when they separated and she stayed with her father and grandmother. She was a troubled teen and at fourteen she systematically skipped school until she was expelled, to her father's shock.
In the sixties, aged twenty, she was hired as a Pan Am stewardess in Buenos Aires and was transferred to New York. She later returned to Buenos Aires and worked as a secretary.
Margaret also undertook therapy, which introduced her to a different world of ideas and culture. In 1977 she moved to Britain, which is still her home.
