Heather Kilgour Jones

My mother was born in 1930 and became a war child at the age of nine. In the turbulent years that followed, she was evacuated and received little education, leaving school at the age of fourteen, shortly before the war ended. Always an avid reader, she educated herself in the subjects she loved most: history and poetry. Later in life, she returned to formal education to become a qualified nurse.

Heather resided in Bexhill-on-Sea for over sixty years and loved it there. She had three children: two girls from her first marriage and a son from her second. Well known in Bexhill, she could often be seen walking her big German Shepherd dog through the town, in Egerton Park or on Galley Hill.

After her husband's death in 1989 she lived on her own until her death in 2018. She left her poems to me with a wish to have them published. I feel privileged to honour her wish and I am delighted to be able to share her poetry with others.

  • On Wings of White

This collection of poems depicts the thoughts of one woman in response to the events, places and people that she loved throughout her life. Often nostalgic and tinged with sadness, Heather's poems reflect human experiences with which we can identify.
