David Gladwell spent his youth at art school in Gloucester - but was soon bitten by the bug of film-making. His ambition was to make animated cartoons, but he couldn't find an opening for that in the fifties. And anyway, National Service beckoned and had to be obeyed. By the end of that (formative?) two years, he managed to find an opening in the professional live-action film world and spent many, many years as a feature-film, documentary and television editor, script-writer and sometimes director. On retirement, he became an amateur artist.
