Maria Sproulle author of Milky and Max Sail to Saturn, released their book recently! We wanted to catch up with them and see what their life is like as a new author!

  • Did you always dream of becoming an author?

Have written stories since childhood.  It now feels good to be able to encourage children to do likewise.

  • What was your first job?

A-level teacher of languages.

  • How did you come about writing your book?

Was that your intention or did you start writing for fun?   My interest in space led me to write stories, sending Max to the Moon, Mars and Saturn, for the neighbour’s children which led to the children at school reading them as well.

  • What was your life like before you became an author?

Very busy teaching, running a Modern Languages Department at a private sixth-form college and trying to find time to write.

  • Did you face any struggles before becoming an author?

If so, how did you overcome them?  Because writing was a hobby, I didn’t take it seriously until children at the local primary school encouraged me to get my stories, which they enjoyed, published.

  • Now that you are a published author, how has your life changed, if at all.

I’ve been asked to speak at schools, run a Book Club at the local primary school and give presentations on outer space at a bookstore in Cambridge.

  • Can you please describe a typical day in your life now?

On a good day, amongst the daily grind, I manage to find time to write.

  • What is your most memorable moment of your life as an author?

Being asked to speak at Careers Day at the local primary school on “Being an author” and told that my talk was “inspiring”.

  • In a few words, how would you review your experience with Pegasus Publishers?

Very supportive.

  • Why did you choose Pegasus Publishers?

A local, encouraging, friendly publisher.
