Submit Your Manuscript
You have done the hardest part: you have written a book. We understand that a manuscript is far more than a collection of words; it is the result of long hours, careful thought, creativity and perseverance.
Before submitting your work, we encourage you to revisit it with fresh eyes. Share your manuscript with trusted readers, consider their feedback and take time to refine your work. Thoughtful revision is an important part of the writing journey and can help your manuscript reach its strongest form.
Once received, your manuscript is reviewed by our submissions team to ensure it is complete and accompanied by the necessary materials. It is then passed to our editorial team for a more detailed assessment.
Our editors look for writing with originality, clarity and purpose, as well as the potential to connect with readers. We also consider style, structure, presentation and overall suitability for our publishing list.
The review process is thorough and may take up to six weeks.
If our editors feel your manuscript is suitable for publication, we will contact you with an offer. Once your publishing contract has been signed, your book begins its journey with Pegasus.
Your manuscript will be assigned to a dedicated production coordinator, who will guide you through the next stages. This may include refining your blurb, acknowledgements, illustrations where required, and other key elements needed to prepare your book for publication.
A strong cover creates an important first impression. Our design team works to create a cover that reflects your book’s genre, audience and identity.
Your production coordinator will discuss the initial direction with you before sample cover designs are prepared for consideration. Once the final design is agreed, your cover will be prepared for print and digital use.
Your manuscript now begins its transformation into a finished book. During this stage, the text is professionally formatted into a clear, readable and attractive layout.
Typeface, styling and page design are considered carefully, taking into account the genre, tone and intended readership of your work. Practical details, such as book dimensions and layout structure, are also finalised before the proofing stage begins.
Every word matters. At this stage, your book receives careful attention to ensure the text is clear, consistent and ready for publication.
The first proof is sent to you for review, giving you the opportunity to check the layout and raise any final amendments. Our team will then work with you to incorporate agreed changes and prepare the book for the next stage.
Once the proofs are complete, your book moves closer to publication and your publicist will begin preparing for the promotional stage.
As your book nears publication, your publicist will be in touch to share a provisional publication date and begin discussing promotional plans.
Press information and marketing materials may be prepared, and key book trade databases and distributors, including Nielsen and Gardners, are updated so your book can be listed and ordered.
Your publicist may also explore suitable publicity opportunities, including media contacts, bookshops, events, reviews and other promotional routes where appropriate.
Once your book is published, copies arrive at our warehouse and the process of sharing it with readers begins.
Digital promotions, social media activity and other marketing support may be arranged as part of your campaign. Complimentary author copies are also sent to you, giving you the memorable moment of holding your finished book for the first time.
We may also explore further opportunities, such as book awards, reviews and additional promotional ideas where suitable. Your own involvement can make a real difference, helping your book reach more readers.
Royalty statements are issued every six months, giving you an update on your book’s sales and royalties.
Publication is only the beginning of your author journey. Reviews, reader feedback and new opportunities can continue to develop over time, helping your book find its place in the world.
