In 1886, Montclair County, Virginia, was still experiencing the repercussions of the Civil War. The hopeful cadet, Isaac Freeman, looks up to Professor Montague, who is referred to as 'The Lame Lion of Lewisburg',” wishing to imitate his heroism and win the notice of the beautiful Rebeccah, his daughter. But as Isaac gets more involved in the professor’s world, he then starts noticing the sinister side underneath the genteel mask. With a murderer at large and an underground society closing in, Isaac will have to face the perilous reality: in the New South, the devil is sometimes a gentle man.
