In 1886, Montclair County, Virginia, was still experiencing the repercussions of the Civil War. In a ‎very different aspect, the famous Confederate soldier, Professor Jeremiah Kimble Montague, ‎amuses his students at Preston College and at the same time a terrifying new power is emerging. ‎The Brotherhood, consisting of ten hooded men, are riding at night and sending out reports of their ‎brutal actions which the morning newspapers consume

The hopeful cadet, Isaac Freeman, looks up to Professor Montague, who is referred to as 'The ‎Lame Lion of Lewisburg',” wishing to imitate his heroism and win the notice of the beautiful ‎Rebeccah, his daughter. But as Isaac gets more involved in the professor’s world, he then starts ‎noticing the sinister side underneath the genteel mask. With a murderer at large and an ‎underground society closing in, Isaac will have to face the perilous reality: in the New South, the ‎devil is sometimes a gentle man.‎
