A Right Song and Dance

Alan Halliday

Behind the ballet and opera, there is a theatre full of false masks. Once the pride of the Blackpool Tower Ballroom, Gramps, the centre of a circle of English eccentrics, still pirouettes his way through thickets of impropriety. His Creative Dream Team of lies, lust and the casting-couch involves his mistress, Adora, a ballerina; his former mistress, Juliana, an opera singer, Juliana's ex-husband and their gorgeous gardener, Eddie, a public schoolboy, fallen on hard times.

Wickedly observant, Alan Halliday's fourth novel strips back layers of lunacy to reveal a Song and Dance Company which tours from Oxford to Stratford to Edinburgh, the West End and Broadway where Gramps is obliged to work with the local company. There is a right song and dance, and the American performers walk out. Undeterred, on opening night Gramps and his Creatives go out on stage and show the others how to do it.
