It was World Earth Day yesterday, but just because it has come and gone, it doesn't mean we can stop thinking about it! We thought it would be a good idea to share 5 facts about World Earth Day!
1. World Earth Day was founded after US Senator Gaylord witnessed an oil spill that poured millions of gallons of oil off the coast of Santa Barbara in 1969.
2. Earth Day was originally formed in the US, but by 1990, was recognized all over the world!
3. On the first World Earth Day, around 10% of the US population participated in the event. That might not sound like much, but that equals around 20 million citizens! As well as this, 2000 colleges and universities, and 10000 public schools also participated!
4. World Earth Day is one of the largest secular events in the world, with an estimated 1 billion people participating each year!
5. Just because of the pandemic, it doesn't mean we can't support our world! In 2020, there was a 12 hour World Earth Day live event, and more than 20 million people watched!

Just a reminder that we shouldn't stop after the day is over... We should be looking after our little ball of blue all year round!
