Thomas Pass - Author Life

Thomas Pass, the author of Jonathan, released their book in 2020. We wanted to catch up with the new author and see how life has been treating them since they were published.

Did you always dream of becoming an author? Since I was 13, yes. Though I used to write short stories on a small laptop when I was around 10 or 11.

What was your first job? I worked as a waiter in a café/restaurant.

How did you come about writing your book? Was that your intention or did you start writing for fun? I started by writing fanfiction, then a draft of a novel, then I self-published a collection of short stories and finally I got to Jonathan. The character was born out of a class at uni where we had to create a character out of an item given to us, and I was given an old stained phone case. I wanted my collection of short stories to have some kind of connective tissue so I tried to mold my character as part of them.

What was your life like before you became an author? I’m still at Uni, and the lockdown has affected me like everyone else so – at the moment pretty similar.  

Did you face any struggles before becoming an author? If so, how did you overcome them? Having the confidence to send out manuscripts and the realisation that you cannot work on them forever is important, and took time to encourage myself to do.

Now that you are a published author, how has your life changed, if at all? Not at the moment, as this is the first of many books I plan to get out into the world. I have one finished already and two more on the way after that!  

Can you please describe a typical day in your life now? It is the same as it was before, especially in lockdown, except no I have renewed confidence that I can chase my dream of becoming a successful authr.  

What is your most memorable moment of your life as an author? As a new author I’m not really sure how to answer that. The day the manuscript was accepted for publication – I would say.

In a few words, how would you review your experience with Pegasus Publishers? Very good, the communication was great and process was very smooth and well planned.  

Why did you choose Pegasus Publishers? I sent out to many publishers and Pegsasus were one of the few that had their submissions open in May/June of 2019. Their books seemed to fall in line with what I wanted to publish, so it was a good fit.
