Yes. It’s many years since my first attempt was rejected but the little flame burnt on.
Astronomer, doing research at Imperial College in London. (It’s a base for unusual career paths: see Brian May)
I thought erotic literature could be about real people in real situations – and I set that as a ‘fun challenge’ for myself. I had some very good feedback and thought I should see if I could get the story published.
I had been in business – and travelled a great deal internationally. Then I retired early and bought a boat.
I am more disciplined about committing to the sequels – and I enjoy writing every day. The Water’s Edge is the first of a quintet – and the characters are now spinning off into other stories. The Water’s Depth and Careless Hours are already in the publishing pipeline.
I always wake early and spend the first two or three hours writing, whether I’m on the boat or in the apartment. Beyond that, it’s either enjoying the Adriatic – or family time.
The first time I had feedback that someone couldn’t put the book down – they were late getting their child’s tea!
I want the characters to be real and engaging; I’d like the sexy passages to be stimulating (whether that’s memorable, enlightening, or encouraging); but, above all, I’d like readers to be captivated by the stories.
Very impressed. Everything has happened as I was told it would.
From the research I did, they were top of my shortlist; then, fortunately, they liked the book and agreed to publish. Embarrassingly simple, really, but very exciting.
