Gigga Black, the author of 'The Scritch', released her book in September 2019. We wanted to catch up with the new author and see how life had been treating her since she was published.

Gigga Black, the author of 'The Scritch', released her book in September 2019. We wanted to catch up with the new author and see how life had been treating her since she was published. 

1. Did you always dream of becoming an author?

It’s always been a private desire of mine to become published

2. What was your first job?

My first job was apple picking in an orchard in Somerset for cider makers when I was 10 years old

3. How did you come about writing your book? Was that your intention or did you start writing for fun?

My Dad went on a walk with my brother over Christmas and fell down a gully at Stourhead and they were rescued by someone in the military with a long rope. I started writing for fun, and the file was discovered on my Dad’s computer in 2017.

4. What was your life like before you became an author?

I have been a charity shop supervisor in a book shop and was inspired by the various books in the shop. I also worked as bank a support worker with people with mental health issues and learning difficulties. I am still a carer for a guy with heart disease and asthma.

5. Did you face any struggles before becoming an author? If so, how did you overcome them?

Yes, one year I broke my leg had a miscarriage and moved house and left my job as a support worker. I found the creative process very enjoyable of writing the Scritch. I have now worked out that I need certain conditions to write in.

6. Now that you are a published author, how has your life changed, if at all?

I am planning to write more books and I have had radio interviews and have even sent “The Scritch” to some new friends in Iceland.

7. Can you please describe a typical day in your life now?

I leave my flat at about 9.30 and go to the local cafe and write until 2 and after that go and see my friend who I care for and do general caring duties for him. I sometimes work on the social media aspect of things late in to the night.

8. What is your most memorable moment of your life as an author?

I was interviewed on the local radio station Abbey 104 fm by my friend and presenter Gary White

I was offered a contract with Pegasus Publishers in August 2018
