On this day in history, Julius Caeser was murdered, with his alleged last words being “and you, my child?” (to Brutus, one of his attackers). We thought we’d take a look at some other important figures from history, and what their apparent last words were.
Charles Darwin - "I am not the least afraid to die."
Marie Antoinette – (after stepping on the executioner’s foot) "Pardon me. I didn't do it on purpose."
Winston Churchill – “I am bored with it all.”
Michel de Nostradamus - "You will not find me alive at sunrise."
Nancy Astor (the first woman to serve in the British House of Lords) – “Is it my birthday, or am I dying?”
Karl Marx – “Last Words are for those fools who believe they have not yet said enough!”
Emily Dickinson - "I must go in, for the fog is rising."
Steve Jobs - "Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow."
Bob Marley – “Money can’t buy life.”
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - (To his wife) "You are wonderful."
Lenoard Nemoy – (not his last words, but his last tweet) “"A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP."
Of course, it’s entirely possible that a lot of these aren’t true. But they’re probably more interesting than the truth anyway.
