Christmas Presents for Fictional Characters

Christmas. It’s a time of giving and, whether you loathe the commercialisation of a religious holiday, or you love the chance to indulge your loved ones (or yourself) that now comes to mean one thing: presents!

To spread a little humour in the week leading up to ‘The Big Day’ we are taking a look at some of our favourite literary characters and deciding just what they should be getting under their Christmas tree this year.

Dobby The House-elf

We think Dobby the House-elf would be a very easy person to buy for. It may be seen as a bit of a dud present to some, but we think Dobby would love nothing more than a good pair of socks. Or a bad pair of socks. Spotty socks. Stripy socks. Itchy, smelly, possibly previously owned socks. Dobby would love them all. You wouldn’t even need to bother filling a stocking.

Hansel and Gretel

These kids could have really benefited from a sat nav. Or a phone with google maps. Just anything to help them get out of the woods as quickly as possible. Heck, even a good old fashioned paper map would do, preferably with the Witch’s Cottage marked in big, bold writing saying ‘Do Not Enter’.

Katniss Everdeen

This is a tricky one. What do you get for the girl who’s lost everything? Maybe a photo album with pictures of her loved ones, including those no longer with her? After the events of the epilogue, maybe Katniss, Peeta and their family would just like a holiday. A long holiday. Far, far away from Panem.

Cinderella

Now, while those glass slippers are beautiful and, as it turned out, handy too, they’re not exactly practical. Any girl who’s been out dancing in high heels will know the pain Cinders was no doubt in by the end of the ball. We think she could do with some soft gel inserts to slip into those shoes. Or perhaps some nice, soft fluffy slippers to wear when she got home.

Matilda

One of Roald Dahl’s most famous and loveable characters is a girl after own heart. What does Matilda love? Books, and a lot of them. If we weren’t sure which books she’d already read, we could always get her book vouchers so she can choose her own perfect read. You could even get her signed up to a book subscription box so that she gets a new book every month of the year!

What are you hoping to find under the tree this year? Are there any books you’re hoping will come your way?
