Betty Rose, the author of 'Keep them close' released her book in January 2020. We wanted to catch up with the new author and see how life had been treating her since she was published.
Did you always dream of becoming an author?
From my very early teens, I wanted to work in the literary field, maybe in a magazine or so on. My interests were art, poetry, people.
I have always written.
What was your first job?
Working in the Co-Op.
How did you come about writing your book? Was that your intention or did you start writing for fun?
I was writing relaxation scripts and philosophy for my circle. After retirement from Nursing, I followed on with a few letters to magazines which were published and then decided to try a short story which developed into a novelette which I self-published a WW2 Homefront story.
Following this, I was inspired to write my novel, Keep them Close, a fiction which focuses on family and issues of mental health and homelessness.
What was your life like before you became an author?
Pretty quiet and relaxed following retirement from Nursing.
Did you face any struggles before becoming an author? If so, how did you overcome them?
Its been a journey of self-discovery. The writing is second nature, and I write about topics that I feel are relevant in our everyday life, gritty, earthy and spiritual.
Now that you are a published author, how has your life changed, if at all?
Oh, it’s exciting, rewarding. Scary.
Can you please describe a typical day in your life now?
Up at 7 am, house chores, walk Milly the dog, meditation and prayer, research for next manuscript, plotting, notes, joss sticks or candles, handwrite next chapter, type up on the laptop, walk, cook, garden, swimming or gym in the evening.
Read in bed, always.
What is your most memorable moment of your life as an author?
Receiving an acceptance from Pegasus.
Choosing my cover and the arrival of my complimentary box of
‘Keep them Close’.
In a few words, how would you review your experience with Pegasus Publishers?
From a very scary outset, they have supported me, guided me, taken me through this journey until the publication of my book, and they still support and guide me with marketing and contacts.
Superb.
Why did you choose Pegasus Publishers?
I sent out twelve query letters, had four acceptances, and chose Pegasus on ‘gut instinct’. I was right!
