Did you always dream of becoming an author?
No. I did not really think about it until I started working for film script writers and then, in my spare time, helping a poet to organise and prepare his work for publication.
What was your first job?
My first job was a Saturday job as a cashier at C&A when I was still at school.
How did you come about writing your book? Was that your intention or did you start writing for fun?
A very dear friend of mine often discussed her life with me and over the years, some of the incidents I had shared with her became altered. When I pointed this out, she realised that my memory was much better than hers. She asked me to write our experiences down, because she did not want to forget them and the novel grew out of that.
What was your life like before you became an author?
When my husband retired about seven years ago, we lived a quiet life in a small town on the outskirts of Madrid. As I love to travel and my husband had travelled all through his working life, two or three times a year, I would take a couple of weeks off to travel by myself or with friends.
Did you face any struggles before becoming an author? If so, how did you overcome them?
No. Life on the whole has treated me very well.
Now that you are a published author, how has your life changed, if at all?
I am a very newly published author, so life has not had time to change. The only adjustment I have had to make is that I have had to try, and try very hard, to become more computer competent. Previously, I used a computer as a glorified typewriter. Even sending an email was a major task.
Can you please describe a typical day in your life now?
At the moment, life is very quiet. Most mornings, I go to the spa as I love all the water activities there. I walk for half an hour and when I get home, spend some time with the kittens, which are now growing fast and are extremely boisterous. That brings us to lunch time and after lunch, I like to relax and read, or even paint, and make notes for a possible new novel. There are days when I have lunch or coffee with friends and we try to do something afterwards. Madrid has many opportunities for the theatre or art exhibitions and a variety of good classical concerts, which we attend frequently.
What is your most memorable moment of your life as an author?
Probably the moment when I decided to try and get my book published. It had been laying around for quite a while before I made up my mind and, when it was accepted, it was very exciting.
How would you best sum up your experience with Pegasus Publishers?
The experience has been on the whole, good. It was rather heavy going with the corrections, as they went backwards and forwards quite a few times.
