It's June, which means it's Pride Month! We thought we would share 5 facts about it to help share the message!

1. The largest Pride parade was held in Sao Paulo, Brazil! In 2006, Guinness Book of World Records named it the largest Pride event in the world, with over 2.5 million attendees!
New York had a close second, at 2 million, and San Francisco at about 1.7 million attendees!
2. Pride Month has (unfortunately) only been acknowledged by two U.S presidents, being President Bill Clinton in 1999, and President Barack Obama in 2009, saying "All people deserve to live with dignity and respect, free from fear and violence, and protected against discrimination, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation."
3. Every colour on the (original) Pride flag actually has a meaning! They are as follows:
Pink - Sexuality Red - Life Orange - Healing Yellow - Sunlight Green - Nature Turquoise - Art Indigo - Serenity and Harmony Violet - Spirit
4. Pride Month was created in 1994 by Missouri High-School history teacher Rodney Wilson, who originated the idea and served as founder on the first coordinating committee.
5. June is chosen as the month to celebrate Pride to commemorate the Stonewall Riots, which occurred in June 1969. This month is chosen to remind people of the impact that LGBT+ have had in the world.
