The author read Law at Cambridge University not Classics, but has always had a fascination with the Greek Myths. He started reading them to his then-young children at bedtime, and gradually replaced the readings with made-up verse, which seemed to amuse them. He wanted the verses to be as much fun for the reader as for his young audience. The children grew up and the resultant manuscript lay in a drawer for a while until a recent house move unearthed the verses.
