Marton Szepsi Csombor and Translated By Bernard Adams

In 1616 young Márton walked from Kosice to Gdansk, and two years later travelled on to Amsterdam, London and Paris, returning home in 1619, again on foot, via Heidelberg, Prague and Kraków. His journal – witty, candid, and detailed –  is no mere travel diary but a window into history,  a testament to human resilience, and a celebration of the richness of European life in a time both turbulent and extraordinary.
