Meet Keren Obara, author of the science fiction title Cyber Planet XYZ.

Could you tell us three interesting facts about yourself?

I like to travel, I am interested in the future of space travel, and I’m interested in the gaming industry. I am a fan of Elon Musk’s work and endeavours to further the advancement of humanity.

In your own life, what influences and inspires you to write?

In my life, what influences and inspires me to write is an eagerness to contribute to the further intellectual development of mankind. I believe that mankind can become a multi-planetary species. This is the motivation behind Cyber Planet XYZ.

Which book or author has had the biggest impact on you, and why?

JK Rowling, George Lucas, Stan Lee, and C.S Lewis have had the biggest impacts on me.

What were your first experiences with writing?

Writing short scripts at the age of twelve.

In your opinion, what are the key ingredients for a good story or novel?

Excellent world building is key, followed by a sentimental touch of the author’s unique tone of voice.

How long should an author spend on their craft each day?

When it comes to how many hours an author should spend on their craft each day, I would answer that as many hours a day should be spent on one’s craft.

Writing is architecture. Your book is your baby. How many hours does a parent spend on their child? As many hours as possible. The author must nurture their craft continuously. Your work, in a sense, is you gift and legacy to the world.

What was the most challenging part of writing this book, and what did you learn from writing it?

The world building aspect was the most challenging part. I had to self-teach myself aspects such as physics, quantum physics, engineering, space travel, evolution, metaphysics, the fermi paradox (great filter) and many more. I felt as though I was a deity creating my own Cosmos. It was amazing despite the strain.

What common pitfalls should aspiring writers avoid?

The publishing journey requires a lot of time, effort, attention to detail, and hardworking. Aspiring writers should push past the feeling of giving up. Once you stop trying, it’s over. You must push through.

Aside from this, aspiring writers should not sacrifice their wellbeing for the sake of perfection and progress. Balance is key and health matters.

What writing advice would you offer to your younger self?

Take it one step at a time. Ease up. Enjoy the process. Aside from this, try to find your own voice and your own uniqueness. Listen to the infinite intelligence within you and fins your own blueprint.
