Woodland Tales - George the Squirrel and Further Adventures of George

Susie Pidds

This is a story about a squirrel called George, who is just starting out on his life by himself. During his adventures he finds a new home, makes many friends, and by using his newly acquired skills in recycling and upcycling he learns how he can help keep the Woods he lives in clean, tidy and safe for all the animals and visiting people.

I left scI left school at sixteen with a few O levels.

I worked in offices in London as a typist in winter, and as a waitress at a holiday camp in Weston-super-Mare in summer.

When I was twenty I travelled to Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, staying there for eighteen months and secured employment in several Spanish firms, learning Spanish along the way. On my return I applied for a job as a stewardess with Monarch Airlines, and for the next 38 years travelled the world and enjoyed every minute of my flying career.

I was also, on my days off, a volunteer for a cancer centre, an invigilator at the local school, and later a member of the Witness Service at the nearby Magistrates Court.

In my fifties I returned to education and gained, whilst still working for the airline, a Degree with Honours in Social Science and Social Policy with the Open University.

Thanks to my wonderful husband, I have a lovely stepson and step grandson.

During Covid, I used to walk in the woods at the back of my garden and make up stories for my step grandson. His name is George!
