When Toby is invited to a picnic, his autistic traits are triggered. Sad he cannot go, he decides to host his own picnic with his closest friends, who have a better understanding of his issues. Along with his best friend Theo he navigates a journey which enlightens the reader to many of the symptoms of autism and some of the ways Toby copes with them. The reader is introduced to the characters in the book with accompanying illustrations which culminates in a very special achievement.

Anita Batten

Anita Batten is a retired counsellor and charity worker specialising in

the youth sector. She has multiple sclerosis, giving her an insight and

empathy towards coping with disability. She is married with three

children and four grandchildren one of whom is autistic. Drawing

and storytelling has always been her passion along with a love

of flora and fauna. What began as an idea to illustrate her whole

family as either teddies or animals, using alliteration for their names,

developed into a children’s story about autism.
