Rose is bored - until the Maze opens a door to another time, trapping her and her brother Tom in a world full of secrets, soldiers, and shadows. Roundhead troops have seized the Manor House, forcing Lady Anne and her people to hide in the Maze. The villagers are distressed. Their food is diminishing. Escape seems impossible.
With the help of talking animals, old tunnels and a plan that involves string, ghosts, and more courage than they thought they had, the two must outwit a vicious enemy. But time is at stake. Can two children make a difference in a war they were never meant to fight?
