Recollections of a (Slightly) Warped Mind with a Wicked Sense of Humour

J. Barry Smith

Anecdotes, jokes, quizzes and descriptions of memorable events during the author’s life, including a benign ghost! It’s all here in this highly

readable book inspired by Paul Hogan’s 'The Tap Dancing Knife Thrower’. Half of Barry’s 84 years were spent in England, the rest in Australia.

Always a lover of jokes Barry describes his “Bionic Eye” prank (amongst many others) which he played on close friends and staff, with hilarious results.

Barry has had a chequered career having made millions for companies as an employee. Then starting two of his own from scratch with the family’s

help he made a modest fortune supplying a leading Australian supermarket chain with quality cakes and famous lamingtons.

In fact his company is in the Guinness Book of Records for theWorld’s Largest Lamington, weighing in at a whopping 2,361kg!

But his business was forced to close after losing the sale of a major product line during a prolonged supermarket price war.

Barry married twice but his personal life has been marred when, tragically, both wives suffered prolonged brain conditions leading to them being cared for in nursing homes where his current wife still is.

He movingly describes how he used his scientific training (he has science degrees) to diagnose his first wife’s terminal illness. He then persuaded a

vascular surgeon to help. Successful for just six days, the treatment ultimately failed and led to a relapse. She died just six months later.

His second wife is battling Alzheimer’s disease and is currently in a nursing home. In an attempt to cope with her situation and his loss

Barry wrote this amazing book. It is a roller coaster ride of wit, charm, joy and sorrow, caravans and... echidnas!
