Maggie Wimpleton died. She didn?t mean to die, she shouldn?t have died, she tried not to die, but she died. It was her own fault, really.
Maggie worked at Fothering Castle as a scullery maid when Queen Victoria sat on a big golden throne in London. Fothering Castle was split into two: the upstairs and the downstairs. Maggie?s world was downstairs, but sometimes she would be allowed upstairs, and this allowed her entry to a whole new world, a magical world of rich silk dresses, sparkling opulent jewellery and the opportunity to be someone else.
Maggie dreamed of a different life where a handsome young man would come and dance with her, then he would take her to live in her own huge castle, where she would have rich silk dresses and take high tea.
Of course, this would be her undoing, and she died; the match was struck by Shep, who never forgave himself. Now Maggie Wimpleton is a shadow girl, sticking to the shadows, disappearing into the shadows, becoming a shadow. But there is another spirit in the shadows, if only Maggie could see him!
One day, Maggie Wimpleton comes out of the shadows because a handsome young man, dressed as a Victorian gentleman, comes to the castle for a magnificent banquet, and Maggie wants to dance. That means the second spirit is also back in the room, wanting to dance!
Follow the fourth story in the series as Sam and Max Forshaw attend their school?s Victorian evening at Fothering Castle, dressed in full gentleman?s attire and manservant?s uniform, respectively. The boys soon realise there are spirits not yet at peace. Can they help Maggie Wimpleton walk towards the light, and why does Sam still feel there is another soul still wandering the castle?
