Born in 1947 in London, Stephen Gage attended five schools in the capital and East Anglia, including Chiswick and Bungay Grammar schools. After starting work as a trainee accountant, he became a company accountant and then a business consultant. Although a keen rugby player, playing county rugby at every level, he spent several years as an administrator in the EFL. Firstly, as chairman and chief executive of Wigan Athletic, then as managing director of Colchester United. Nowadays, Stephen enjoys writing, walking near his home on the Essex coast, watching sports and spending time with his family.
