R. Allen Shoaf (Al, as most people know him) has been writing poetry for over sixty years. Most recently, he has published Call Me Queequeg, Ishmael (New Plains Press), a collection of poems responding to Herman Melville's Moby Dick. He has also published the chapbooks Erotic Reckonings and Simple Rules. In 2022, he published a substantial collection of his poetry, Selected Poems 1968-2021. Currently, he continues to work on The True Shape of All of It, a collection of poems responding to Olga Tokarczuk's The Books of Jacob, and Hidden in Each One of Us, responding to Dostoevsky's fiction.
