Peter Hess, a professor of economics, emeritus, at Davidson College, is Michael's brother. At Davidson, he was fortunate to receive three major teaching awards. He also has co-authored undergraduate texts on economic principles and economic development and authored undergraduate texts on mathematical economics and economic growth and sustainable development. Peter has served as president of the board of directors of Nepal Orphans Home, the non-profit organization founded by Michael, in 2005. His wife, Barbara (Boo), has been secretary/treasurer of Nepal Orphans Home since the beginning. Together, they have volunteered six times over the years in Nepal with Papa's House.
