Born in the late forties in a suburb of south-west London, Lewis left school at sixteen with little in the way of qualifications. However a five year engineering apprenticeship paved the way to a successful career in mechanical engineering, technical writing and teaching. From his early teens he pursued a keen interest in photography and frequently submitted work and articles for journals and magazines. During the late nineties both these skills came together with his first illustrated book documenting a fascinating journey to Poland.
