About

L. O'Brien

L. O’ Brien is the pen name of Birmingham author Luke Knowles. After completing the manuscript for his first children’s book The Aliens Next Door, Luke felt a simpler and shorter name would be more appropriate and so in homage to his Irish heritage used his grandmother’s maiden name when creating his pen name.

The road to finishing his first children’s book began from an early age where Luke had a vast interest in reading and creative writing. From creating stories with his toys, to writing several short stories at school that featured a main character called Patrick, Luke has always held an interest in writing alongside his other hobbies and interests.

His hope for his writing is to bring a hint of happiness and togetherness that he felt with his children when telling them his own unique stories. Reading to a child at bedtime is a right of every parent and though he thought, through losing his sight, that he wouldn’t be able to do it properly, he managed to find a way to do it in his own personal way. His hope is his books will bring more parents and children together at bedtime or story time in the future as well as carrying positive messages for children to absorb.
