Fi is a forty-four-year-old woman, late diagnosed autism and, even later, ADHD. Fi has struggled with anorexia nervosa much of her adult life. She's always felt out of place, that she didn't quite fit in with her peers or even into the normal presentation of anorexia nervosa, so the late autism diagnosis (aged forty) did not come as a surprise but definitely helped her understand herself better. After a tumultuous few years, Fi has thrown her energy into therapy and studying, is now very much in recovery from anorexia and almost completed a psychology degree. She has also recently started working as a peer support worker in the local community NHS adult eating disorder service.
In Autism Is My Friend, Anorexia Is Not, Fi Emmerson courageously shares her poignant journey through the intersecting realms of autism and anorexia. Drawing from her personal experiences, Fi sheds light on the complexities of coexisting conditions and the unique challenges they present.
