Evaline Cole writes speculative fiction and fantasy, and is based in the Greater Seattle Area.
In The Celestial Empire: Cameos, Companions, and Crossings, Evaline Cole weaves an inventive, philosophical fantasy inspired by the Chinese zodiac, myth, and the shifting architecture of imagined worlds. When Sheep flees death and stumbles into a realm populated by Rat, Monkey, Tiger, Ox, Rabbit, Dragon, and other archetypal figures, a quest unfolds that is both literal and metaphysical. Guided—perhaps manipulated—by the enigmatic traveler Pyxis, these characters converge on Yangshuo and beyond, forming unlikely alliances as they question fate, loyalty, destiny, and power. Through barroom intrigues, riverside encounters, dream-eaters, celestial blueprints, and shifting empires, Cole constructs a layered fable about society, ambition, identity, and the fragile line between dream and reality.
