As a clinical cytogeneticist using genetic methods to diagnose heritable disorders in pediatric and cancer patients, Eduardo Saldaña Cantú dedicated nearly forty years of service. He was director of major academic and commercial clinical laboratories. Importantly, he also contributed to the development of new tests and a better understanding of these diseases. He loved his profession, but he also wanted to honor his father's wish to write about the family's history. Dr. Cantú recently retired, and as he had promised his father, he is now writing about past times when things were so different, but important enough not to be forgotten.
Chalo's pursuit of higher education takes him far from the close-knit world of his family, where tradition, faith, and hard work have long defined success
