Sharon Probert

As a paediatrician, I see how the health of children is affected by bullying. These health issues can impact educational attainment, as well as hobbies and friendships. As a parent of three, I witnessed first-hand the effects bullying had on my youngest child's physical and social development. The decline in her confidence levels took many years to address. Eventually she developed irritable bowel syndrome, which is a problem I see on a regular basis in my paediatric clinics.

I wrote Alvin's Ears' to help children understand that it is fine to be different, but also that you can affect other people by the things you do and say.

Alvin is a shy rabbit, who lives with his relatives in the Seven Warrens. Being the only member of his family with lop ears affects his self-confidence. When he plays lettuce ball (rabbit football), he often falls over his ears and is teased by his brothers.
